Dear colleagues,

The Hellenic Sleep Society is pleased to invite you to the 13th Panhellenic Congress on Sleep Medicine that will be held in Athens, at the amphitheater of the 251 General Air Force Hospital, from Friday, November 3 to Sunday, November 5, 2023. Sleep is a fundamental biological pillar of human existence, along with food and fluid intake. The deprivation of sleep and the presence of disorders, that affect its quality, have particularly adverse effects on health, as demonstrated by research over the past decades. The lack or poor quality of sleep contributes as a pathogenic mechanism to many serious and common diseases such as cardiovascular, psychiatric disorders, dementia, susceptibility to infections, diabetes, obesity, and even cancer.

Insomnia and sleep apnea—the two leading sleep-related disorders in terms of frequency—have serious consequences on an individual’s health but also economic implications, which have been estimated and calculated in recent years. They are related to the loss of productivity of the sufferer, due to the side effects on alertness and work capacity, as well as to the increase in the frequency of traffic and work accidents due to drowsiness. In this context, the advancement of sleep medicine research as well as the invention and utilization of new technologies for the diagnosis and treatment of disorders is continuous. Our society aims to offer an interesting program, of high standards, with lectures, round tables, and announcements, and to cover a wide range of the subject matter of sleep medicine in a notable scientific event.

2022 EUROPEAN SLEEP RESEARCH SOCIETY CONGRESS

Dear Colleagues,

It is our great pleasure to warmly welcome all Europen and other international scientists to the 26th Conference of the European Sleep Research Society, which will open its doors in Athens on the 27th of September 2022, hosted by the Hellenic Society of Hypnology.

The Congress, following the difficult period of a pandemic that barred international travel and prevented scientists from sharing their experience and progress in meetings in person, is expected to bring us together once again and to facilitate exchange of ideas and knowledge in a manner that will promote science and will bond further the scientific community by face to face interaction.

We trust that the scope of the programme, which encompasses the whole field of sleep medicine, from basic science to psychiatry, to psychology, to neurology, to pulmonology, to surgical and oral procedures, to technological aspects, to subjects on the relation of sleep to law and regulations, will serve the subject in a mostly comprehensive way and benefit both the discussants as well as the audience who will attend.

Before closing, we would like to thank you for coming to our city, to wish you all a joyful and scientifically satisfactory experience, and to also wish that you will enjoy your time in our country. The hospitality by the officers and members of the Hellenic Society of Hypnology, as well as the great venue in the centre of Athens where the Congress will take place, assure that you will certainly have a really memorable time while with us.
